146 and 038 started nesting in 2005. Mississippi Sandhill Cranes are critically endangered. Currently there are approximately 110 cranes in this non-migratory population. They are rarely found outside of Jackson County, MS. 80% of the cranes are banded with color bands like those seen to the right. Several of them also have radio transmitters which biologists use to track them and learn about their unique biology.
